Breast Reduction- Gynecomastia

Breast Reduction for Men in San Antonio, Texas at Diana Plastic Surgery

Gynecomastia (chest): is the condition of enlardged breasts in men. There are various causes of gynecomastia; from hormonal changes to the use of certain drugs or prescriptions. Dr. Diana's gynecomastia procedures help men to boost their confidence and have a more fulfilling life.

Are you going through emotional discomfort and lowered self confidence? Do you avoid certain physical activities and maybe even intimacy just to hide your enlarged breasts? You may have gynecomastia.

Gynecomastia is characterized by:

  • Excess localized fat
  • Excess glandular tissue develepment
  • A combination of both excess fat and glandular tissue
  • Gynecomastia may be present in one breast or in both breasts.

Who is a good candidate?

  •  Men who are in good physical condition and normal weight.
  • Men who are bothered by the feeling that their breasts are too large.

How It Is Done: If the chest area simply needs to have excess fat removed, then liposuction is usually the best surgical option. However, if the excess padding is a result of breast tissue formed from excess glandular tissue, then the gland itself needs to be removed or the tissue will grow back.

In cases where gynecomastia is primarily the result of excess fatty tissue, liposuction techniques alone may be used.

Excision techniques are recommended where glandular breast tissue or excess skin must be removed to correct gynecomastia. Excision also is necessary if the areola will be reduced, or the nipple repositioned to a more natural male contour. Sometimes gynecomastia is treated with both liposuction and excision.

Recovery: Patients typically return to work within a few days to a week. After surgery, dressings or bandages will be applied to your incisions and an elastic bandage or support garment may be used to minimize swelling and support your new chest contour as it heals. A small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect.

Staying Power: Permanent in many cases.
